Acting Chairman – Julia Williamson

28 November 2007

Dear Members and Supporters

A great deal has happened since our last newsletter. Firstly, we are sad to report that our Chairman, Yvette Ingles, is retiring on health grounds. In the circumstances, Yvette’s husband Brian will also be retiring from the committee. Our sincere thanks go to Yvette and Brian for all their hard work over the past year, and our best wishes to Yvette for a speedy recovery. We look forward to seeing them back in action soon. A new Branch Chairman will be elected at the AGM. In the meantime, our Vice Chairman will take over on a temporary basis.

Here is an update on the anti-EU activities in which our branch members have been involved recently. The focus has been on cross party/non political-party activities, as this seems to be the best way forward at the present time.

PARISH POLLS – CAMPAIGN ALLIANCE FOR REFERENDA IN PARISHES (CARP)

No doubt you have seen the well-publicised reports in the media about the small village of East Stoke in Dorset, the first to hold a parish poll to demand a referendum on the EU Reform Treaty - which of course IS the EU Constitution resurrected. The results were 92% in favour , and the village has been described as ‘The Mouse that Roared!’

The idea is spreading fast across the country, with over 50 parishes now involved. We on the committee decided that this project was well worth supporting. Congratulations and thanks to all our members who have worked alongside people from other parties and associations, and turned out to vote, to achieve the following successful results in our area:

In Newton and Noss on 31st October, on a dark Halloween night (chosen by SHDC, not us!) an amazing 328 residents cast their vote, with 302 (92%,) in favour of a national referendum. A superb result. The turnout of 21% was deemed around the normal range for parish polls, especially considering that a high proportion of the villagers normally need proxy or postal votes, which were not allowed in this type of poll.

Yealmpton has now started the process, with their parish meeting on 21st November demanding a poll which should be organised by South Hams District Council during December. Please call us to volunteer for some leafletting if you are able to do so. Good luck Yealmpton, and let’s see if we can beat the current turnout record of 26% held by a Wiltshire village.

We need this initiative to make maximum impact in the press and to raise awareness generally. What about your parish? If you have just 10 people, from any party or none, willing to stand up and be counted, we can provide all the necessary documents and help. It may be easier in small parishes , but there is no reason why it should not take place anywhere. If you are angry with the current situation and do not know what can be done – here is a plan which is already making a difference.

At last people are realising that it is no use leaving it to the politicians, most of whom just seem to be out for themselves. If we want to remain a sovereign nation we must all become ‘mice’ and ‘roar’ as loudly as we can. Please do help us with this plan, for which UKIP have joined an alliance with the Democracy Movement, Freedom Association, Campaign for Independent Britain, Labour Euro-Safeguards Campaign, and some individual MPs of various parties.

PRO REFERENDUM RALLIES 27TH OCTOBER

The London Pro Referendum Rally on October 27th was attended by our Treasurer, Colin Curtis and his wife Jackie. At the same time, our Secretary, Alistair McIntyre was organising a similar event in Plymouth City Centre, along with members of the New Battle for Britain Group. Well done to all of those involved. See their special reports enclosed.

VISIT TO THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT

Colin and Jackie also went on a coach trip to the European Parliament in Strasbourg. See their special report enclosed. Colin says that this visit is ‘Free’ – that is, it is paid for by the EU (and we know where their money comes from). The EU pay in the hope that you will be converted to their way of thinking, Visits are organised several times a year by the MEPs, so if you would like to go over there yourself, do phone the UKIP Head Office on 0800 587 6 587 to make enquiries.

PROSPECTIVE PARLIAMENTARY CANDIDATES

We are sure you will all be pleased to know that our former Chairman and Parliamentary Candidate Hugh Williams has decided to stand again if there should be a General Election. Over the past year, Hugh has been helping the UKIP leadership, and has been in touch with Marta Andreason – the EU whistleblower who has just been appointed as UKIP Treasurer. Hugh says "I want to ensure that we are governed by elected politicians from Westminster and not by an unelected, unaccountable European Commission in Brussels that can never be dismissed. The EU is no different from the Soviet one-party state."

We are also fortunate that Bill Wakeham, who scored the highest UKIP percentage in the country last time, is preparing to stand again for Devonport and Sutton.

That is of course if we are ever allowed to have another General Election – once the Reform Treaty is ratified, (early in 2009?) all national political parties will be illegal and soon disappear, and we will only be able to vote for pan-EU parties. It is interesting that Gary Streeter MP has announced that he will not stand for Parliament again. Does he know something about this? Why not ask him?

THE EU CLOSING POST OFFICES

Post Offices in the area are now terribly concerned as they realise that time is running out. Despite all we have done to inform people, they still will not blame it on the EU. They are being pressurised and threatened with loss of compensation if they even talk about the problem. Please tell them about the EU Directives behind this.

The European Union is closing Post Offices in Britain and France with EU Directive (97/67/EC), and it is the deliberate removal of services by the EU from post offices which makes them uneconomic. By demanding that all the profitable parts be sold off, there is nothing left worth having. The TNT logo you see on mail is a German company. The old Post Office Bank, the NSB is now run by

Siemens of Germany. Removing our post offices takes the heart out of our villages and local areas. It is just a small part of a much larger plan to strip Britain of its identity, wealth and capability.

The Government is promising compensation and funds for the new system of Post Office ‘Network Change’, but its own website admits that this State Aid is subject to EU permission!

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The AGM will be held on Wednesday 9th January, at Yealmpton School and Community Centre, Stray Park, PL8 2HF, 7.00 pm for a 7.15pm start. There is plenty of level car parking space. Trevor Colman will be there to report on national progress with the Parish Polls. We will need some new Committee members due to retirements, so please fill in and return the nomination forms if you are interested.

Following the AGM, the meeting will be opened to the public at 8 pm for a talk by our guest speaker, Albert Burgess, Chairman of a UKIP branch in Oxfordshire. Albert is an ex-policeman, and has hatched an amazing plan to force the police to investigate the crime of treason by remaining members of Edward Heath’s Government. Many groups across the country are joining in this original and effective way to fight the EU. After the talk there will be time for informal discussion and refreshments.

Please do bring your friends. If non-members need to wait while the AGM is taking place, coffee and tea will be served in a comfortable lounge area in the Community Centre, with plenty of interesting literature to read, or the Rose and Crown and Volunteer hostelries are close by.

THE REALITY BEHIND THE EU

It is time to look at the truth about who and what are behind the EU. What is happening to your privacy, your safety, your money, your health,? What is causing the deliberate breakdown in society, the unbearable pressures on small businesses and the falling standards in our institutions? How long before we are all forced to carry ID cards, be microchipped, vaccinated for everything, DNA tested, under constant surveillance and even more tightly controlled? How long before there are armed foreign police marching on our streets, who can arrest us and search us without charge for ANY slightest offence, so that we live with daily fear and uncertainty? How long before the 200 laws under which officials can demand to enter and search your home are implemented? (to see if you are harbouring illegal immigrants, overfeeding your dog, using the wrong lightbulbs - - ). How long before the deliberate destruction of our farming (yes there is much evidence that is IS deliberate) causes a dramatic increase in the cost of imported food supplies? Perhaps the speakers at our meeting can answer some of these questions.

There are many people fighting in various ways to defeat this takeover of our country. One inspiring 83 year old lady, Elizabeth Beckett, is fighting through the High Courts for the right to with-hold the part of her council tax ear-marked for EU purposes. We can do our part by talking to friends and strangers, passing on this newsletter, visiting our MP, organising or taking part in a parish poll, sending letters to the press, writing to the Queen, looking out for meetings to attend, demanding to leave the EU by whatever means. Don’t wait for someone else to do it, and don’t give up. If we want to retain a sovereign nation, and a free country, we must fight now with all our might.
